On May 27, 2017, Disney California Adventure is set to reveal the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! ride—the attraction replacing the beloved Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. The infamous indoor elevator drop will be reimagined by Imagineer Joe Rohde in collaboration with the director of the film, James Gunn, to ensure visitors experience a true depiction of the story. While many of us already miss the Tower of Terror, we can’t help but be excited for the addition of a new Marvel attraction!
Here is a rundown of everything you need to know about Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout!
As mentioned above, the ride will mostly be using the same infrastructure, but will be re-themed to immerse us into The Collector’s futuristic fortress, The Tivan Collection. We will be able to witness all of the objects and artifacts he has collected across the Marvel Galaxy, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, trapped in customized display cases.
The basic premise of the ride: Visitors will board a gantry lift where Rocket Raccoon will be enlisting our aide in helping the guardians break out of the the prison and fortress. Imagineer Joe Rhode ensures us that there are multiple, unique ride profiles in which each riding experience faces a slightly different situation. The ride will be a “chaotic and hilarious adventure,” a huge contrast from the dark, haunting themes of the Tower of Terror.
